Color can play an extremely important part in composition, and understanding how color works will only help your images. In color theory, every color has an “opposite” color that is complementary. The primary colors are red, green, and blue, and their complementary colors are cyan, magenta, and yellow. Using these colors correctly can add balance and symmetry to your images (Figure 8.16).
You can use color as a theme in your photographs (Figure 8.17). It’s always a bonus when a person I’m photographing has bright-colored eyes. I try to match the background with their eye color—this highlights the color in their eyes and can really make them “pop” (Figure 8.18).
